Alert: Post Hurricane pool safety and barriers

Attention:  Property Owners with swimming pools.  City Hall has received reports of properties with swimming pools that have fences or enclosures that sustained damage or were destroyed from Hurricane Irma.

Please note:  Property owners with pools are the responsible parties for properly enclosing and maintaining their pools including maintaining the quality of the water supply.

A pool without an enclosure is a dangerous hazard and this is considered to be a safety matter.  The City WILL code enforce any property owner that does not have proper fencing or screens around their pools.

Please refer to the following links for reference to Florida Statute and City Code:

515.29 Residential swimming pool barrier requirements. (

Sec. 134-515. – Swimming pools; owner’s responsibilities in operation and maintenance; city’s authority.
