EPD Honors WPD Officer German and OCSO Deputy Pine at Lantern Floating Hawaii Event

Yesterday one of our Officers was on vacation in Honolulu, to attend “Lantern Floating Hawaii” something he has done many times over the years.  This year he chose to honor the lives of Windermere PD Officer Robert German & Orange County Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine -two local heroes who we lost just weeks apart last year.  The best way to describe Lantern Floating Hawaii is from their web page:  “Held annually on Memorial Day on Oʻahu’s south shore, Lantern Floating Hawaii brings together over 40,000 people on the beach, joined by thousands around the world via live streaming and telecast for an evening of honoring loved ones and generating collective hope toward the future.  Lantern Floating Hawaii is a ceremony where all can come together for a personal and collective moment of remembrance, reflection, and offering gratitude to those who have gone before us. It is a chance to be surrounded by the love, understanding, and support of others – even strangers. We are strengthened as a community as we reach out to support others and build understanding of our common values and experiences.”  The best way we can remember their ultimate sacrifice is to honor them.  While waiting in line with others to float the lantern, our officer was approached by many people asking to take pictures of the lantern and offer their thanks for the sacrifice of both men.  We hope you enjoy and share the photos.
