Business Tax Receipt

What is a Business Tax Receipt?

A business tax receipt is a document issued by a local city or municipal government that proves a business is allowed to operate in that area. Business tax receipts are typically issued and renewed on a yearly basis. Similar to a business permit or license, the receipt is issued to a business to ensure it’s registered for local taxation purposes.

Who must pay the business tax?

Any person or business entity operating a business located in the City of Edgewood must obtain a business tax receipt.  Anyone who provides merchandise or services to the public, even if only a one-person company or home-based business, must obtain the business tax receipt in order to operate.

Do I also need an Orange County Business Tax Receipt?

Yes. After you complete your applicable inspections, and receive a Certificate of Occupancy from Orange County, you will receive your Edgewood Business Tax Receipt. You can then apply for your Orange County Business Tax Receipt. You will need to renew your Orange County Business Tax yearly, as well as the City of Edgewood Business Tax.
